Goal:To win, you need to arrange all the cards into the four empty Foundations piles by suit color and in numerical order, starting from Ace all the way to King. In our game, this is automatically done for you!Īll leftover cards after the foundations are created become the “Stock,” where you can turn over the first card. Only the last card in each of the Tableau columns is flipped over face up so you can see it’s suit, color and value. Ultimately, you will have seven piles, with the first pile containing one card, the second pile containing two cards, the third pile containing three cards etc. The eighth card distributed will go into the second column, since the first column already has its one and only card.Īfter the piles are complete, they should be cascaded downwards such that they form a “reverse staircase” form towards the right. As an example, this means the first seven cards will create the seven columns of the Tableau. The tableau increases in size from left to right, with the left-most pile containing one card and the right-most pile containing seven. Game setup: After a 52-card deck is shuffled you’ll begin to set up the tableau by distributing the cards into seven columns face down, with each new card being placed into the next column. You must move all the cards found in the tableau to the four foundation piles by suit and in order from Ace to King to winĬontinue reading below for more details, or start playing solitaire!.When a tableau column is empty, you can place a King there.A Three of Clubs can be placed on top of a Four of Hearts. Cards and groups of cards, as well as individual cards from the stockpile, can be moved in the tableau as long as they are moved on top of a card of a different color in descending rank. Thanks again for your thoughts. The way salomon boots work is they have a super wide volume and a hole lot of padding and pack down where the need to.Ĭheck the shape of your foot. I'll expand my search to 120/130 flex range in hopes that the fit along the shin and cuff angle will be right to accommodate a stiffer flex. I'm still thinking Daleboot, but may try to eek out the rest of the season in these Salomons and then do some early season skiing in Utah in the fall. Because the season is so short here in the midwest the local dealers don't reorder once stock leaves the shop, so I've got to hunt around. I got to ski three times in the past 10 days and I'm asking myself, are my current boots really that bad? But I know, that as soon as I say, "let's keep em another season" something will break and I'll be in the emergency buy mode. They were pretty good- until the temps dropped below 25☏ and then it was like flexing block ice. I remember many years back I had some yellow Langes. That seems to be the consensus and I'll just have to see for myself how they feel in the shop and pray they don't stiffen up that much in the cold. So replacing them isn't a matter of if, but when- and with what. which largely explains why I've nursed my current pair for 16 seasons. I hope I painted a broader picture of my situation. I did a pretty good job of keeping up with the teenagers yesterday. Age is beginning to become a factor so I don't push as hard as I used to, but in good conditions can still crank turns pretty well. When I've gone out of the area, I've most often skied Snowbird UT, thought I've skied at Jackson, Squaw Valley, Sun Valley and Vail, pretty much everything in Summit County. As I get called on to teach upper levels I sometimes have to do bump lessons. Terrain? For the most part I'm here in the midwest, so mostly cruising hardpack. My avatar illustrates about 75% how hard I can turn when cruising on groomed. How hard do I turn? While I teach a lot of lessons where not hard at all, when out free skiing, depending on the area, it can be fairly hard. So I have to find that perfect blend of fit, flex and performance. When that happens I get shock waves through my entire body, as if I got blasted with a lightning bolt (no joke). I've learned to generate a LOT of leverage from my feet, so the tongue/cuff of the boot serves to create more stability than leverage, PLUS shock absorption, so that my ankle doesn't get cranked when I run into something hard. My shin does not like overly stiff boots, requires the right balance of stiffness, forward lean and ramp angle. However, my shin lost a lot of muscle, has a screw right in the middle where the tongue could hit and can be a bit tender. My left ankle, I believe has severe calcification which restricts my dorsiflexion to about 90°, though I can extend relatively normally. I was in an accident many years ago where my left leg suffered major damage. My condition is somewhat unique and a bit of a conundrum. The reason I am inquiring is because I want to gauge what I might buy vs what I have. What can you guys tell me about today's flex ratings, and perhaps specifically about where this Lange RX100 fits into the scheme of things? TIA I have no idea how these boots are going to feel on the hill and while I don't like super stiff boots, I don't want boots that are too soft and will flex out the first time I hit a big bump. But this boot is listed for "strong intermediates to expert skiers". And the 100 flex may have even been softer than my old Salomons. I tried on a pair of Lange RX100's (100 flex). My boots liners are pretty well packed out and a new liner doesn't make sense. Back then 110 was super stiff and only pure race boots were stiffer yet. The Salomon XWave 8.0's are rated at 90 flex, but to me feel stiffer. I used to destroy boots in a season, but now am very light on the tongues, ski from the bottoms of my feet and the tongue/cuff mostly acts as shock absorption and stability more than as leverage. I have a light touch and don't pummel turns like I used to do as a less accomplished skier. I've been in the same Salomon boots for over 15 years now. To see if your computer has Arial, launch the Font Book application and search for Arial. Prism Mac requires the presence of the Arial font or it won't run. The fix, of course, is either to move the file, or shorten the name of one of the folders. If there are 259 characters, you won't be able to open the file. Prism Windows, however, can only handle 258 characters. Windows allows up to 259 characters in the path that defines the folders, subfolders and file name. For example, some people (but not all) say that Prism 5 is almost useless under El Capitan. When apple releases new versions of OS X, they sometimes make changes that prevent old versions of Prism from running. OTHER SIMPLE FIXES THAT MAY SOLVE THE PROBLEM Make sure you are not running an old version of Prism with a new version of OS X If you see a message similar to "only power users may install software" or "access denied," or "you are not authorized to perform this action" or "only Administrators may install prism" or "unable to save serial number file" then switch to this FAQ. The Soviets had boasted that she would have all the comforts she needed to survive and return home safely. In the original plan, Laika was to come home. The Soviet propaganda of Laika was a prominent fixture during the Space Race. “This has been done not for the sake of cruelty but for the benefit of humanity.” listverse Liaka on a matchbox. “The Russians love dogs,” they responded in a statement. The Soviets didn’t understand why the rest of the world was so upset. Then, she would be euthanized with poison in her dog food. Laika would spend a few days in orbit above the Earth. They knew that she would not survive the trip home. The satellite they’d built wasn’t equipped for a safe reentry. listverse Laika wasn’t going to come back. During training, Mushka became so terrified that she wouldn’t touch her food. Mushka, like Laika, was a stray, but the hardships of the space program were too much for her. Another dog named Mushka would be used to test the life support. The hardship these mutts endured, they believed, made them tough enough to handle the harsh conditions of space. They had a team that gathered strays off the streets. While the Americans preferred to send monkeys into space, the Soviets found dogs easier to train. Laika was a stray dog wandering the streets of Moscow who was sought out by the Soviet Union to take part in the space program. After about five to seven hours of flight, there were no further signs of life coming from the spacecraft.įive months later, after 2,570 orbits, the Sputnik II, including Laika’s remains, disintegrated upon reentry on April 14, 1958. A malfunction in the separation of the nose cone satellite caused damage to the thermal insulation and temperatures in the cabin reached over 100 degrees F. At peak acceleration, Laika’s heart rate increased to three times her normal rate. Liftoff on November 3, 1957, was in the early hours of dawn. At that time of year, temperatures were very cold and Laika only had a hose connected to a heater to keep her warm. Laika was placed in her launch capsule on October 31, 1957, three days before the start of her mission. She was placed in a centrifuge that simulated the acceleration of a rocket launch as well as placed in a machine that simulated the noises of a spacecraft. To adapt Laika to the confines of the Sputnik II cabin, she was kept in progressively smaller cages for periods of up to 20 days. Laika’s movement was restricted by a harness and chains that would only allow her to stand up or lay down. The spacecraft was also fitted with a fan designed to activate whenever cabin temperature exceeded 59 degrees F, food to last Laika a week, and a waste collection bag. The craft was equipped with a life-support system consisting of an oxygen generator, devices to avoid oxygen poising as well as a carbon dioxide absorption system. The satellite also contained instruments for measuring solar irradiance and cosmic rays. The official decision to launch Sputnik II was made on October 10, leaving less than four weeks to design and build the spacecraft. Nikita Khrushchev, then, the General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, wanted the mission to coincide with the 40 anniversary of the Bolshevik Revolution and the launch of the puppy was expedited and rushed. Laiki was launched in the Sputnik II on November 3, 1957. Laika was a Soviet space dog who became one of the first animals in space, and the first animal to orbit the Earth. Starfire has served as mentor/teacher to the latest roster of Teen Titans, and also began serving with the Outsiders. She had casual relations with Captain Comet, who clearly felt more for her than she did for him. The relationship was already on unsteady ground, with Kory fearing that Dick was rushing into marriage and also being concerned by the anti-alien sentiments that sprang up in response to the news of the impending nuptials. Raven murdered the priest before he pronounced Dick and Kory husband and wife. She almost married Dick Grayson, but their wedding was interrupted by Raven, who had followed in the footsteps of her father, the demon Trigon. She even dated and fell in love with a human man named Franklin Crandall, who turned out to be a freelance spy working for H.I.V.E. She has been married twice, both times to Tamaranian men: once to Prince Karras to seal a peace treaty, and once to General Ph'yzzon for love. She chose to remain with the team and took the name Starfire, and quickly formed a romantic relationship with Dick Grayson, then - as Robin - the leader of the team. Koriand'r escaped and eventually found her way to Earth, where she gained the help of the Teen Titans. However, far from grateful, Komand'r struck her sister down with the same - but much stronger - starbolt power and had her restrained for later execution. Against her better judgment, she decided to free Komand'r who was still absorbing energy. During the procedure, forces loyal to Komand'r attacked the Psion ship to rescue her, and while the Psions were distracted, Koriand'r broke free using her new ability of starbolts (destructive blasts of solar energy) acquired through the experimentation. Largely sadistic scientists, the Psions performed a deadly experiment on both sisters to see just how much energy their Tamaranian bodies could absorb before exploding from the overload. Koriand'r endured six years of torture and sexual abuse until she and Komand'r were both released to the Psions for experimentation. They used Komand'r's information to successfully invade Tamaran, and King Myand'r turned Koriand'r over to the Citadel to ensure peace. When both sisters were sent to train with the legendary Warlords of Okaara, the bitter Komand'r ran off, allying herself with the Citadel. Therefore, she was deemed unworthy to be queen and the succession fell to Koriand'r. Her older sister, Komand'r was the first in the line of succession, but she was crippled by a childhood illness that robbed her of her natural Tamaranian ability to convert ultraviolet light into flight energy. Koriand'r was the second of three children. Euan Sinclair pointed out (on one of his Tweets) to a book that his colleague recently published. When they are secretive with their own employees, do you think someone will let it out to strangers?ĭr. After all, the entire firm survives on the fact that they have working strategies. You need to see how secretive these people are. These days, I am looking for a quant job, and am working on an unpaid internship at a HFT firm. I even took a certification course on algorithmic trading where no real life strategies were taught. All I got was trolls commenting with nasty remarks. I used to ask the same question a while back on Reddit and other forums. Way easier to trade the second derivative of the markets than the first. Ie when is the market likely to have more upside than downside vol, etc. They are predicting when you have benign vs volatile market environments. One other thing - without giving away the special sauce, the best signals tend to be ones that aren’t predicting an asset price or market direction. My suggestion to you is to read white papers, understand the concepts, and just experiment. So in this way, you end up using signals that are working and cut signals that for whatever reason aren’t. The best guys are doing a few things - one, they are updating the algos using machine learning techniques as new data comes out, second, they are watching how the algos perform vs their statistically backtested expectations, and third they are diversifying across a bunch of signals/strategies and allocating more $ to winners and cutting losers. And models and signals may not update for this. For example, cross asset correlations may shift depending on Fed policy, or oil price as an input to stock prices can switch polarity (increasing prices are good and reflect demand growth at low price regimes, but are bad and reflect inflation at high price regimes). The other challenge is that many findings and signals change as relationships in the market change. Then it becomes a statistical game over a long period of time. For academic findings, you have to basically find ways to translate these into thresholds of when to buy and when to sell or get out, which takes market knowledge and experience. Plus, you can whittle away returns with transaction costs. So yes, signal may result in statistically significant higher returns over a long time horizon, but on a day to day basis, you can get smoked or hit stops. However, they are usually describing a conditional state when the XYZ variables are in play, and the results are a DISTRIBUTION of outcomes. For example, white papers may describe a market phenomena (variables/inputs XYZ result in higher than average future returns over time horizon T). The signals I have that work best usually are based on academic white papers, but there is skill required to parlay these into successful trading strategies. You’ll find examples for inspiration and code snippets showing how to actually run them, but rarely anything that actually works as-is. Frankly, good algos are proprietary and extremely valuable obviously, so nothing that good will be shared publicly.
